We are an agile team of experts in bicycle technology and sharing systems. Our founder, Philip Douglas, is the inventor of the minimum-maintenance Simpel bike and a pioneer in public cycling. The Velobility team shares his passion for progress and is dedicated to co-create the future of urban mobility. To fulfill our vision, we cultivate a strong customer focus and an open collaboration with clients and partners.
Bike is the new car, and sharing is the new buying. These two convictions lead to the founding of Velobility AG in 2010. Born as a spin-off of from the B2B unit of a Swiss bicycle manufacturing company (Simpel GmbH), we are specialised in engineering multi-user bicycles, as well as in developing and implementing solutions for bike sharing projects. Our low-maintenance products solutions – based on our patented Ridebox® technology – and our rich project experience make us a preferred provider to major public cycling systems in Switzerland and other European countries.
The strength of our solutions is powered by strong strategic partners: ElectricFeel for data intelligence and fleet management. Designwerk for co-design and co-engineering. Nick Lobnitz for our Paper Bicycle and Electric Paper Bicycle models. Our developments in urban mobility are supported as a pilot and demonstration project by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. Velobility has been awarded with the «SEF. High-Potential SME» quality label by the Swiss Economic Forum in 2013 and 2014.
Also, Velobility is an active member in the following organisations: EnergyBus, European Cyclist’s Forum, International Association of Public Transport, International Transport Forum, Velo-City-Conference, Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad Club, Nationaler Radverkehrsplan Deutschland, Pro Velo Schweiz, Bike Sharing Forum Schweiz, Mobilitätsakademie Bern.
As our client or partner, you can bank on qualities that are typical of Switzerland: innovation, precision, reliability. These qualities make sure that the total cost of ownership of our systems is among the most competitive in the market. No wonder Velobility has been selected as the official engineering and maintenance partner for the newest generation of Swiss Army Bikes. As a matter of fact, we are so Swiss that we chose e a former cheese factory as our headquarter.
Velobility is the living example that youth and experience go together very well. In a young industry, Velobility has a 5 year track record in developing and implementing bike sharing platforms – and a 15 year track record in bicycle engineering. Every day, our know-how is riding on hundreds of shared bicycles in Switzerland, Germany and Qatar. And every day, we work hard to enrich our experience through constant innovation and futureproof client solutions.
